Self Control
Galatians 5:22,23 says, "That the fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." NIV
If you don’t mind I’d like to be transparent for a moment and let you in on a little secret that most of my friends already know. I’m a chocoholic. I looooooooove chocolate! Whenever I come near chocolate I begin to salivate.
Exception: I don’t like chocolate mixed with coconut.
I have it so bad that the first year my husband and I were married, he was trying to help me with my addiction by hiding some chocolate-coated peanuts I’d purchased. He hid them in our washroom underneath several quilts. When I arrived home from work I inquired about my peanuts and of course, he wouldn’t tell me where they were. So I proceeded to walk through my house and I literally sniffed them out. As soon as I entered the washroom, I smelled them. Now mind you they were in a sealed plastic bag, underneath several quilts in a cabinet. Now if you can top that please email me.
Anyway over the years I’ve had to work very hard not to allow my chocoholism to overtake me. During certain times of my life, I can’t have it in my possession because I know I will consume every bit of it. But there are times when I fail and I don’t get it right. Which is what happened to me a few weeks ago and after I ate it I felt bad because I knew I shouldn’t have eaten it. So I asked for forgiveness and began to pray to God for self-control.
